debb > Jim shared with us at the grave of a young man, Michael Levine who as an American Jew chose to come to Israel and fight with the Sons of Israel. Michael’s family were Bill Sutter’s neighbors. Jim shared how Michael came to enlist and was turned away because he was too small so he left the building, went around the corner and climbed into the bathroom window, went to the officer in the next room – who asked to see his papers. Michael told him that he didn’t have papers. The officer told him that he couldn’t get in the building without papers and Michael said, “I know” and then explained to the officer how he had got in. The officer was so impressed that he signed Michael up as a paratrooper. Michael was in the US on vacation when the 2006 war broke out. Michael cut his vacation short to return to Israel to fight with his unit and was killed in one of the skirmishes.
